چکیده
Abstract Current seawater temperatures around the northeastern Arabian Peninsula resemble future global forecasts as > 35 °C are commonly observed in summer. To provide a more fundamental aim of understanding structure wild populations extreme environmental conditions, we conducted population genetic study widespread, regional endemic table coral species, Acropora downingi , across Peninsula. A total 63 samples were collected southern Arabian/Persian Gulf (Abu Dhabi and Qatar) Sea Oman (northeastern Oman). Using RAD-seq techniques, described A. area. Pairwise G’st distance-based analyses using neutral markers displayed two distinct clusters: one represented by individuals, other individuals. Nevertheless, model-based method applied to data suggested panmictic encompassing both seas. Hypotheses explain distinctiveness phylogeographic subregions rely on either (1) bottleneck events due successive mass bleaching, (2) recent founder effect, (3) ecological speciation large spatial gradients physical or (4) combination seascape features, ocean circulation larval traits. Neutral indicated slightly structured downingi, which exclude hypothesis . Future studies broader range organisms required furnish evidence for existing hypotheses explaining Though this is most thermally tolerant acroporid species worldwide, corals have undergone major mortality over past three decades. Therefore, present has important implications patterns processes differentiation group, whose may be pushed extinction warms.

Short Term Growth Rate of Acropora downingi in the Coral Reef of Hengam Island, the Persian Gulf
In the Persian Gulf, Acropora- dominated coral reefs have been damaged by global and local disturbances. Inversion of coral colonies mostly occur due to anchoring and fishing in many coral reefs, particularly those established nearby human societies, like the coral reef of Hengam Island, in the Persian Gulf. The short term growth rates (weight increment) of inversely and normally transplanted c...
متن کاملThe reef-building coral Acropora conditionally hybridize under sperm limitation.
Multi-specific synchronous spawning risks both sperm limitation, which reduces fertilization success, and hybridization with other species. If available sperm of conspecifics are limited, hybridization with heterospecific sperm could be an alternative. Some species of the reef-building coral Acropora produce hybrid offspring in vitro, and therefore hybridization between such species does someti...

متن کاملOxygen consumption of a single embryo/planula in the reef-building coral Acropora intermedia
O2 consumption of a single embryo/planula at each developmental stage was monitored in the reef-building coral Acropora intermedia using an optical O2-sensing system with our original micro-chamber system (6.28 μl). The lowest rate of O2 consumption was observed in unfertilized eggs. After fertilization, O2 consumption increased and remained constant until the prawn chip blastula stage. However...
متن کاملGenetic variation in responses to a settlement cue and elevated temperature in the reef-building coral Acropora millepora
Reef-building corals are threatened by increasing sea surface temperatures resulting from global climate change. Whether corals can adapt to increasing temperatures over the course of generations will depend in part on heritable variation in thermal physiology and dispersal potential, which may serve as the raw material for natural selection. To investigate whether such variation exists in cora...
